In the beginning of 2001, a friend of Mr. Greenwood visited Spindle Head Hill Museum in Beaumont, a town 1 hours drive from Houston, Texas.
This place is also also called Gladys City BoomTown. Gladys City was originally intended to be a model for industrial cities, and was named after Gladys Bingham, a Sunday School pupil of Patillo Higgins, a geologist who first became interested in the possibility that "Spindletop Hill" was covering an abundance of fuel. This replica of the Spindletop oil derrick sits is only a half mile from the drilling site that uncovered the Spindletop gusher in 1901.
