Visit to Coal Mine

Mr. Greenwood visited one of the last coal mine in Japan. Due to it's high production cost, Japanese coal mine are at the threshold of closing. It is located in northern part of Japan, and actually it is under sea bed. Although Japan's consumption is 130 million tons per year, it only produce 2 million tons per year were produced by 1,300 personnel.   It took 40 minute to arrive at cutting front, 600meters below sea level. Cutting machinery are imported from Germany and Australia. There are non in Japan due to low demand. Following photographs takaen at the hotel lobby are model of those machinery.

The coal mine is located in City of Kusiro. Major industry of the city is coal mine, pulp and fishery. Whether there is very cold like in Sakhalin.
