Manpukuji

At the southern end of the main street of Koshigoe, There is a Temple called Manpukuji. Reputedly this temple was founded by the Buddist priest, Gyoki (668-749). It is sacred to Yakushi-Nyorai. From this temple, Minamoto Yoshitsune, younger brother of thr Shogun Yoritomo, write the "Koshigoe-jo" a reaffirmation of his allegiance to Yoritomo and a plea to be restored to favor. Artifacts used by Yoshitune's cohort Benkei are preserved within this temple.
