Remain of Koyurugi Fortress

Mr. Greenwood recently found that more than 150 years ago, there was a fortress at Pt. Koyurugi, western most point of Seven Mile Beach. The fortress was built to protect Sagami Bay from the invasion of European countries. Medieval Japan closed door in 17th century. But they found many country were asking to open door in mid 19th century.

On the remain of the fortress, there are pink roofed houses in the hollow place of the Koyurugi point.

History of the fortress:

In 1792, Russian visited Nemuro in Hokkaido

In 1808, British battle ship, Faton made a disorder in Nagasaki.

In 1840-42, Opium War in China.

In 1846 Kawagoe clan was ordered to make fortress in Pt Koshigoe.

In 1850 Hikone clan installed 3 cannons and 5 small cannons there.

In 1853, Perry fleet from US arrived port Uraga.

In 1859, It is recorded that no cannons in Pt. Kishigoe.

Now, the site is a private property and on sale.
