Enoshima Island

Enoshima island is now connected with bridge. You can walk from Katase Beach.

Enoshima Island is a historical place for it's Enoshima Shrine. Approach to the shrine still preserve the old time flavor.

cocking.jpg (1889) At the top of Enoshima Island, there is a light house and Botanic garden. Old lighthouse was  replaced by a new one on May 2003. Botanic garden first made by an Englishman, Samuel Cocking (left)100 year ago was reopened.

From the observation deck of the lighthouse, you can see Enoshima Sailing Club which was once used as a base for Olympic sailing competition and Seven Mile Beach beyond.

At the west end of the Island, there is a cave called Iwaya-no-Kuchi. This place was drawn by Hiroshige's Ukiyoe woodcut painting.
