Macintosh Times

Mr. Greenwood used floppy discs for data back up. He is still keeping hundreds of backup copy.

Windows 98 Times

In the early stage, ZIP100 drive was used for data backup of  Sharp Mebius MN-530-X16. Then it was graded up to CD-R/RW(RICOH MP8040SE)connected via PC card (SCSI).

Windows ME Times

Data backup of Dell Dimension 4100 (Windows ME) was conducted by built in CD-R/RW (600Mbyte). But Mr. Greenwood started feeling that it is tedious work as the volume increases. Now the size of "My Documents" is expanded up to 3.5Gbyte and HTML files of FrontPage is 1.2Gbyte.

He considered of buying DVD-R/RW. But it can only record up to 4.7Gbyte-9.4Gbyte/disc and also need USB2.0 or IEEE 1394 connector. But Dell Dimension 4100 has USB1.1 socket only. In November 2003, he selected a portable hard disc of 20Gbyte. It is BuffaloHD-PU2/UC with USB1.1/2.0

It weighs only 150g. It took almost 1 hrs to record 4.7Gbyte data. This speed correspond to 12Mbps transmission speed of USB1.1.

BuffaloHD-PU2/UC could also be connected to VAIO note book PC equipped with USB1 and Windows XP.

Windows XP Times

BuffaloHD-PU2/UC shows higher performance, when it is connected with Dell Dimension 8400 equipped with USB2.0 and Windows XP. All data transfer to and from Dell Dimension 4100 and  VAIO note were conducted through this portable hard disc.

In March 2007, Larger backup HD having capacity of 320GB (I-O DATA HDH-U320SR) was introduced to store 80Gbyte data in Dell Dimension8400.
