名画「駅馬車」のテーマ音楽

忘れ得ぬ映画で使っているBGMはまえじまさんが作成したMIDIを使わせてもらってます。彼から下記のコメントをもらってます。

駅馬車のテ−マ音楽はアメリカの古い民謡「寂しい草原に埋めないでくれ」 で、瀕死の若いカ−ボ−イが、死んでもこんな寂しい草原に埋めないでくれ、と必死に頼む悲しい歌です。「駅馬車」では、原曲と異なり早いテンポの軽快な曲になっていますが・・・・。

私が作成したMIDI演奏は、最初に原曲に近い形で、次に「駅馬車」風に演奏します。

[民謡の歌詞]

"Oh bury me not on the lone prairie,
Where the kiyotes howl, and the wind blows free
In a narrow grave, just six by three,
Oh bury me not on the lone prairie."

"Oh bury me not on the lone prairie,"
These words came low and mournfully,
From the pallid lips of a youth who lay
On his dying bed at the close of day.

"Oh bury me not,"and his voice failed there,
But we took no heed to his dying prayer,
In a narrow grave, just six by three,
We buried him there on the lone prairie.

[まえじま氏の意訳]

「こんな寂しい草原に埋めないでくれ、
狼が遠吠えし、風が吹きすさぶ、
縦6尺、横3尺の狭い墓穴に、
こんな寂しい草原に埋めないでくれ」

「こんな寂しい草原に埋めないでくれ」
この言葉は低く、悲しく聞こえた、
横たわった若者の青ざめた唇から、
日暮れ時、瀕死の寝床から。

「埋めないで・・」、そこで彼の声は途切れた、
しかし、俺たちは彼の瀕死の願いを気にしなかった、
縦6尺、横3尺の狭い墓穴に、
寂しい草原のその墓穴に俺たちは彼を埋めた。
