She wouldn't be able to be referred as the most beautiful actress Hollywood has ever produced. Even so, she
frequently appeared in later-1950s and earlier-1960s movies, especially in fantasy and SF films. Probably, her
ordinary looking might have somehow fitted the scheme of these era's movies of this category. According to Ephraim
Katz's "The Film Encyclopedia", she had been an all-American cheer leader and a teenage pop singer before
she became an actress. Though, as I am a Japanese, I don't know exactly what an all-American cheer leader means,
we can witness her agility as a dancer in the movie "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea"(See the photo above;
in front of her is Joan Fontaine) in which she is dancing nimbly accompanied by the Frankie Avalon's trumpet. Also,
she was a TV star, and appeared in several TV series such as "How to Marry a Millionaire"(1957-59) and
"I Dream of Jeannie"(1965-1970) though I've never watched these TV programs (Sorry, I'm a Japanese).
