NOTE

Although her mother was an American, she was born in France to a French father. However, as almost all her important titles are American movies, it would be no wonder even if someone might think she was definitely an American actress. She started her career as a ballet dancer. But eventually Gene Kelly found her, and cast her in his movie "An American in Paris"(1951). Then, needless to say, she became one of the most famous musical stars in the 1950s. I feel her facial expressions are quite marvelous, running the whole gamut of them, ranging from very coquettish and impish to extremely beautiful and graceful once again to rather ugly. In this regard, there were, though in Japan, even such movie critics who said she was not at all beautiful (I wonder what they were criticizing anyway). By the way, she slightly resembles Julia Roberts because of her relatively big mouth.
