Albums in 1970's

Sticky Fingers
April 23, 1971
(UK) - (1): May 8 to 29, (US) - (1): May 22 to June 12

On this album Stones founded their style. "Brown sugar", catchy introduction of Keith's guitar ref, Keith's chorus on Mick's solo. Stimulating, anti-social and mean lylics. It is the Stones world. I can't hear "Wild horses" without tears. What a sound of first two pickings of the guitar at the begining. Bluesy and funny "You gotta move". Powerful "Bitch". Country rock, "Dead flowers". "Moonlight mile" is originally called "Japanese things".
Cover of my record has real zipper. (Designed by Andy Warhol. The tongue logo was also designed by him then.) On the label of side one, although songs are "Brown sugar", "Sway"..., but written "side two". On side two, written "side one". This kind of records were made less than 500 in Japan in 1971, I heard. Uhm, how many records exist now ?

Exile On Main St.
May 12, 1972
(UK) - (1): June 10, (US) - (1): June 17 to July 8

My stress was released by this in my high school days. On side A, "Rocks off", "Rip this joint", "Shake your hips" and "Casino boogie", then "Tumbling dice". This is one of the best songs of Stones. Country flavered "Sweet virginia". I was surprised (and cracked up) at the last line. "Happy" with Keith's lead vocal. On side D, "All down the line", "Stop breaking down", "Shine a light" (great !) and "Soul survivor". I bet you 70 minutes "Exile on main st." release your stress.

Goat's Head Soup
August 31, 1973
(UK) - (1): September 22 to 29
(US) - (1): October 13 to November 3

Beautiful songs like "Angie", "Coming down again" and "Winter". Cool "100 years ago" and "Doo doo doo doo doo (Heartbreaker)". I have impression Bianca, Mick's first wife, is dancing with Mick in "Dancing with Mr. D". And standard rock tunes, "Silver train" and "Star star".
One year after "Exile...", this album has totally different mood.

It's Only Rock'n Roll
October 18, 1974
(UK) - (2): November 2, (US) - (1): November 23

Every song in this album is great. Full of Stones-like rock' roll and ballad. "If you can't rock me" kicks off this album. Soulful "Ain't too proud to beg". I know "It's only Rock'n Roll" but I like it. (Inspired by Ronnie.) Accorstic "Till the next goodbye". Masterpiece, "Time waits for no one". Keith's introduction, Mick's vocal and Mick Taylor's lead guitar. Rock tune, "Luxury" and "Dance little sister". Soulful ballad, "If you really want to be my friend". Blues taste "Short and curlies". And "Fingerprint file". Stones created new style.
For a couple of months after I bought this record, I listened to it every day.

Black And Blue
April 20, 1976
(UK) - (2): May 8, (US) - (1): May 15 to June 12

Dynamic and funky "Hot stuff". Powerful "Hand of fate". Cool regae, "Cherry oh baby". Beautiful "Memory motel". In Voodoo Lounge tour in Japan, they played this song only once. I was there. Regae taste, "Hey Negrite". They sing 'Negrietaaaah!'. Mick and Billy Preston's duet, "Melody". Jazz taste or blues taste ? Strange mood. Beautiful ballad, "Fool to cry". This is one of the best ballads. Last one is powerful rock'n roll, "Crazy mama".
I define the second period of Stones from 'Beggar's Banquet' to 'Black and Blue'. They had created powerful Stones world absorbing blues, rhythm and blues, folk rock, country, funk, etc.

Some Girls
June 9, 1978
(UK) - (2): June 24, (US) - (1): July 15 to 22

Ron Wood fully joined to this album. Mick played guitar in many songs. Music is changed from this album.
Disco tune, "Miss you". Temptation's "Jusy my imagination". Medeum tempo rock, "Some girls". "Lies", 'lies in my history book.' "Far away eyes" and "Beast of burden". New York life in "Shattered". Keith's lead vocal "Before they make me run".
