Shining (1980) | Jack Nicholson's face is scary. This is a fearful movie happening in isolated hotel in winter. Kubrick's picture is great. |
| 142 |
The Great Escape (1963) | American soldiers escape from German prisoner camp. David McCallum plays in this movie. He also plays in "The Man from UNCLE", TV series. And I was a fan of it. I was disappointed as he could not survive in the escape. By the way, in the next series, "The Girl from UNCLE", the main character is a girl named April Dancer. I also liked it and her. |
| 143 |
Zabriskie Point (1970) | I watched this about 30 years ago. Background music was played by Pink Floyd. I do not remember the story at all. But at the end the house was exploded or burnt, and a car was running on the desert. Then "You got the silver" sung by Keith Richards was played. It was quite impressive. |
| 144 |
Cannabis (1969) | I watched this about 30 years ago too. Some stimulative scenes for a kid was in the movie. The main character was shot through his head by a guy like his pupil and died. It gave me impact. I had thought a main character never died. |
| 145 |
More (1969) | Lots of music of Pink Floyd were used here. I also watched this about 30 years ago but five or ten years ago I found this video in rental shop. It was an old movie. Like a movie of the drug ruining young people. |
| 146 |
A Bout de Souffle (1960) | This is one of Jean-Luc Godard's masterpieces. A French movie. I like it very much. But it is difficult to explain why. Anyway it is a great work. |
| 147 |
Tess (1979) | I heard that "Tess", a novel of Thomas Hardy, is one of the best five or ten novels. I wanted to read it someday. Then I found its movie. Nastassja Kinski was a main character. It was ordinary in the long running time. |
| 148 |
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) |
I heard that Keith Richards whom my wife is a fan of likes this movie very much and he goes to see it every time it is running where he visits. I watched it twice. It looks great. But I feel it desultory. That sounds are impressive. |
| 149 |
Solaris (1972) | Strange movie. Story is weird. Above all I could not concentrate this movie due to a main character's look with stubble and without intelligence. This is a Tarkovsky's work. But anyway it is worth to watch this movie at least once. |
| 150 |
Innerspace (1987) | Meg Ryan performs. I do not remember well but I have image of funny comedy. I had waited next one because of "To be continued" on the last scene. |
| 151 |
All the President's Men (1976) | A movie of Watergate. Two journalists are performed by Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman. A fine work. |
| 152 |
Room with a View (1986) | I think this is an English movie with taste. I do not remember well but I think it is nice. |
| 153 |
The Day of the Jackal (1973) | A movie with high tension. Scenes of adjusting a sighting device and shooting a president of France were quietly tensed. |
| 154 | Midnight Cowboy | This is one of New Cinema Trilogy. Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman performed. It was new type of the movie then. Story might be a little bit gloomy. |
| 155 | Kramer vs. Kramer | Dustin Hoffman again. And Meryl Streep performed as his run-away wife. The story is like; as his wife left, he struggles to bring up their kid. But when his wife affords money, she sue him and the kid leave to his wife. |
| 156 |
Lawrence of Arabia (1962) | A fine work. It is a large scale movie that a British liaison officer played remarkable activities in Arabia. The main character is Peter O'Toole and the director is David Lean. |
| 157 |
Last Tango in Paris (1972) | It became sensational with its radical sexual scenes. The director is Bertolucci. Marlon Brando performed as a weird middle aged man. I can never imagine he is the same guy as godfather. A scene that I was impressed on is that he lowered his pants and patted his flabby hips. I thought it must be a formal patting hips. |
| 158 |
Manon des Sources (1986) | This is a long work. The main character is Marcello Mastroianni. Running hour is more than three hours ? There was a twist at the last. |
| 159 |
Contact (1997) |
Original book is by Carl Sagan who is a radically conservative astronomer. But I like Jodie Foster who is a main character. Some signal was transferred from the space and it was a blueprint of a launching system and a space craft. From the top of rotating giant gyro, a small space craft was dropped. Players and audience believed that it would be sent to some star beyond the space when it came to just the center of the gyro. But it just dropped to the sea. But ... It was very interesting for the last 30 minutes. |
| 160 |
Borsalino (1970) | A gang movie performed by Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo. I remember only one scene that they fought in the beginning. The theme music is a wonderful ragtime. |

Ruthless People (1986) | A slapstick comedy by Bette Midler and Danny DeVito. They make us laugh very much. And Mick Jagger sings theme song. |
| 162 |
The Rose (1979) | This is based on Janis Joplin's life who are a singer of genius and died in her early days. Bette Midler sings soul music, not blues that Janis favorably sang. Bette Midler is also quite talented singer and she displays her talent here too. "When a man loves a woman" is too great. I can't help but shed tears to listen to "The Rose" while credits are going. |
| 163 |
For the boys (1991) | Three of Bette Midler's works are around these ranks. She had wanted to play this role for a long time. Against her eagerness, the movie itself is not so much good. In older days, she went to Vietnam and sang for soulders. But they are not innocent not as soulders in Korean war and they jeered at her. She shut them up, then started to sing, "There are places I remember, All my life ..." It's worth to listen to this in this movie. |
| 164 |
Lipstick (1976) | This movie was sensational at that time. Hemingway's granddaughters performed. Both are beautiful. Finally elder sister shot an offender. I applauded then. |
| 165 |
Fantastic Voyage (1966) | I went to this movie with my parents when I was in elementary or junior high school. The story is that in order to treat some important person who had a clot in his brain, a medical crew got on a cruising pod, were miniaturized and put into his body. Fighting white corpuscles they finally completed the treatment. It is like a prototype of "Inner Space". Raquel Welch performed here. |
| 166 |
A star is born (1976) | Barbra Streisand got to know a down-and-out rock star and finally she herself became a star. It's an old story. |
| 167 |
Romancing the stone (1984) | This is a nice movie by Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas. Danny DeVito also performed. Kathleen, just a minor writer, is getting stronger and more beautiful in the story. Does she have nice legs ? She shows them in some scenes. |
| 168 |
20,000 leagues under the sea (1954) | I watched this in my elementary or junior high school days. I was a fan of "Submarine 707" in Shonen Sunday that is a comic magazine for kids. I was excited at special figured submarine, Nautilus. We should watch this while we are children. Original novel by Jules Verne is also great. |
| 169 |
The Sting (1973) | Robert Redford and Paul Newman. A sophisticated movie. A twist in the last is cool. Theme music is also good. |
| 170 |
Gremlins (1984) | This movie is that ugly Gremlins born from cute Gizmo attack town in crowds. An old guy talks about Japanese cars in US. Is this a theme ? Or just his complaints ? |
| 171 |
Moonstruck (1987) | Romantic movie by Cher. She is always attractive. She is originally a singer. Her song with low voice is also attractive. |
| 172 |
Cadillac Man (1990) | Comedy by Robin Williams and Tim Robins. Tim who believes his wife (or girl friend ?) having an affair holds a car dealer with hostages. Dialog of two is funniest and makes us laugh all the time. |
| 173 |
Jaws (1975) | It is terrible that fears come again and again. A masterpiece in this kind of genre. Original novel is not good. It expresses a fear with amount of adrenaline. |
| 174 |
Planet of the Apes (1968) |
Nice Movie by Charlton Heston. (Recently he was on the news. Alcoholic ?) It is quite shocking that he got away from apes world and finally finds the Statue of Liberty. I also read original novel, where he came back to Earth. Time passed long time because he traveled with nearly speed of light. The Earth was deserted. In the last, he found an ape driving a truck, or found an ape in the mirror of a truck. This is also shocking. In Japan "Next" and "New" planet of apes were shown. I like both of them too. |
| 175 |
Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) | Combination of an idea of superstar and rock musical. Now Matthew's Passion would be much better for me. |
| 176 |
Voyage to Cythera (1984) | Directed by Theo Angelopoulos of Greece. His works have long running time and here the story of this movie also goes on slooooowly. The story is not happy, but it is good to feel this kind of mood sometimes. |
| 177 | John and Yoko | I do not remember well. I think the story is that John and Yoko love each other over tough experience and sadness. My wife likes it. |
| 178 |
Die Hard (1988) | This type of movie is popular. I am not sure how I should explain, but this is nice. I heard that Bruce Willis has a lot of cuts and scratches in all his body after the performance. |
| 179 |
The Graduate (1967) | Benjamin got into the church and picked Elaine who is on her wedding. He locked the door of church with a big cross. Then they set out on a journey on greyhound bus. Personally I believe this, "Easy rider" and "Midnight cowboy" are a trilogy of new cinema. Main characters are Dustin Hoffman and Katherine Ross. Directed by Mike Nicholas. |
| 180 |
The Neverending Story (1984) | I have read Ende's short novels collection, "Mirror in the Mirror". (A fine work !) This movie must be a highly sophisticated fable. I believe we should watch this while we are children. Grown-ups can also enjoy this. |

And the ship sails on (1984) | Directed by Fellini. It describes incidents in a ship quietly and slowly. Finally it shows the sea of luminous cloth and set of a ship. A nice movie. |
| 182 |
Le Souffle au coeur (1971) | I do not remember well. French movie ? ( I learned it was Louis Malle's when I checked the spelling of title on the web. ) I watched it when I was a junior high school student. It could be a movie about adolescence of a high school student. He fell in love with female private teacher or his mother. |
| 183 |
Terms of Endearment (1983) | Played by Shirley Maclaine, Jack Nicholson and an actress with a thick voice. I was impressed that when she with thick voice died she contacted her mother with eyes instead of her husband. He was dozing. |
| 184 |
Fargo (1996) | My acquaintance in US and friends who graduated universities in US recommended this movie. It might have won Academy Award. Actually it was an impressive and strange movie. But I can not say it is nice. |
| 185 |
Bagsy Malone (1976) | I do not remember well but this might be a gang movie and a famous actress played when she was 10 years old or so. I still remember the melody that she sang. |
| 186 |
Nikita (1990) | French movie. This is violent but has sophisticated mood. I can't help but being attracted by this kind of woman without reason. A nice movie. |
| 187 |
The Natural (1984) | What is this ? Directed by Robert Redford ? I feel it was a nice movie, or I might have not seen this yet. |
| 188 |
RoboCop (1987) | I am wondering why this movie is here. It was amusing that TV commercial of goods in the future was on air several times in the movie, |
| 189 |
Kiss of Spider Woman (1985) | William Hurt played. This could be a nice movie but his make-up and costumes for woman are little bit too much. |
| 190 |
Rider on the rain (1969) | An old movie, Charles Bronson was a main actor and a main actress was very beautiful. French movie ? I watched this when I was in junior or high school and I was excited strangely. |
| 191 |
A Passage to India (1984) | David Lean's profound work. My wife says this is very great movie. Actually it is a masterpiece. |
| 192 |
Tootsie (1982) | Dustin Hoffman disguised as a woman. It is quite embarrassing to see a guy who is generally rugged and robust putting on make-up and wearing feminine clothes. Robin Williams also disguised in a movie. Is disguising a step to top stars ? |
| 193 |
Crossroads (1986) | The story is based on the Crossroad Legend, that is, one bargains his soul to a devil and he succeeds in music. The main actor has a match with a devil with guitar at the climax. Finally he beats devil playing a melody of Mozart or Bach. The guitar is played by Ry Cooder. He can play classic, blues or rock music, can't he ?. |
| 194 |
Tucker : The man and his dream (1988) |
Main actor is Jeff Bridges. I feel he is a real actor. These days many actors play their role with their own personality. But he plays as a man in the movie. When I watched The Fabulous Baker Boys, I did not notice they are same person at the beginning. This is a true story in the first period of automobile industry. Tucker tries to build cars in the market focusing on safety. But he finally failed by the big companies, etc. At the last scene, he said to their family, "Refrigerator, next!". ( or could be washing machine ) Theme of this movie might be "image of father". |
| 195 |
Animal house (1978) | The first movie that Landis, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd worked together. This kind of humor is not easy to understand for Japanese. |
| 196 |
The Sacrifice (1986) | Directed by Tarkovsky. A strangely attractive work. Image of screen is blue. Colors of sky, clouds and trees are beautiful. |
| 197 |
Basic Instinct (1992) | A popular movie. I was surprised she played as a main actress. (I forget her name.) Some years later she played a role of grand mother in The House of Spirits. When this movie was on the run, my colleagues were talked about this movie. And some was very sorry that it would not happen if he rejected the second chance. |
| 198 |
The Purple Rose in Cairo (1985) | A tasteful Woody Allen's work. This is a sophisticated movie. |
| 199 |
Batman (1989) | If Superman is west coast, then Batman is east coast. I prefer Batman. (I have not watched Superman. And I have usually traveled in the east coast. I have never been to the east coast.) The director of this movie has gloomy mood. The movie also has gloomy mood. I like it. |
| 200 |
Bonnie and Clyde (1967) | Why is a nice movie like this at the order like this ? The story is novel and the last scene has impact. Actually this is very nice movie. I should raise the rank one hundred or more. |
