51 Nuovo Cinema Paradiso
(1988)
A story of a local town in Italy, where people were enjoying movies. Relationship between Toto and Alfredo, a film engineer, are described. Toto is a urchin boy and attractive. As he grows, the movie and the theater are changing.
At the end of the story, Toto came back to his home town after he succeeded in film business and got old. Then he received "something" from Alfredo. This is one of the best last scenes.
52 Princess Mononoke
(1997)
In the medieval ages in Japan, there are people in primeval woods, who manufacture the steel and produce guns. They are led by a woman, Eboshi-Gozen. She brings women who were sold, lepers or poor peasants to Tataraba (the steel making place). They are working for her. They cultivate the woods and manufacture steel for their living. But trees wither and rivers change its color due to the contamination by steel making. And they can be also regarded as supporting war by selling guns.
In the primeval woods, there live big wild dogs who use man's words and San who is a human girl and brought up by the dogs. They are trying to kill Eboshi-Gozen as she is destroying the nature. San is called "Princess Mononke" by Tataraba people.
Eboshi-Gozen made the emperor a promise that she would deliver a head of the god of mountain which is regarded as an origin of immortality. A daimyo, a feudal lord of the land, is raising tax of steel making and wants to govern the Tataraba if he has chance.
Then Ashitaka arrives there, who believes people in Tataraba and the nature can live together. He tries to help both of them, people in Tataraba and San. Under the complicated situation, the story goes on speedy. ( I have watched this movie two times. And I watched it again to summarize the story for this. )

This is very good movie. Every lines and every actions are considered well. In my opinion, Eboshi-Gozen is symbolized as "civilization" and San as "nature". It is not clear that who is right and who is wrong in people there except greedy samurais. At the last it seems that the nature comes back to Tataraba, but nothing has been solved. This is heavy question for us.

There are some web sites featuring this movie. The following is interesting for its academical consideration.
Princess Mononoke

53 Schindler's list
(1993)
Directed by Spielberg. He made a film, "Color Purple", describing race issue in his early days. ( This is a serious movie but a main role was Whoopi Goldberg! ) After success of SF films, he who is himself a Jew made a film of Jews in World War II. This is quite good movie.
Schindler is played by Liam Neeson. Recently I watched "Les Miserables" where he also plays a main character. ( In this movie, there play Uma Thurman of "Pulp Fiction", or Geoffrey Rush of "Shine". He looked so different from him in "Shine" that I didn't recognized him till I saw the credits. Claire Danes who plays Cosett plays voice of San in English version of "Princess Mononoke". )
54 What's eating Gilbert Grape
(1993)
A main role is Johnny Depp. This is a story of a family. A mother continues to eat and watch TV on a couch since their father committed suicide in a basement. ( Her weight became incredible situation. ) Johnny Depp plays a role of eldest son. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a role of an autistic brother. When I watched it, I believed he is really retarded. I think this is his best performance.
55 Back to the future
(1985)
This is good movie. Every scenes and every lines have meanings. The story is to visit 1950's inventing a time-machine using a car called DeLorean. Main actor and actress are Michael J. Fox who fits a role of high school boy and Lea Thompson who plays roles of a high school girl and a fatty middle aged person. Music is also good. I heard that Michael himself plays a guitar and sings Johnny B. Goode of Chuck Berry.
56 Au revoir les enfants
(1987)
Directed by Louis Malle in France. Some say this is his best work. This is a story in a school in Paris in World War II. Nazis invades, there are some Jew students in the school, and so on.
57 Good Will Hunting
(1997)
The story is that in some university, a young guy is working as a janitor but as a matter of fact, he is a genius of mathematics. A main character played by Matt Damon has some problem in his mental situation and a psychiatrist played by Robin Williams help him to open his mind. This is really a good movie, but a main actress whom genius guy is chasing throwing everything away is not my type.
58 My left foot
(1989)
Main actor is Daniel Day-Lewis. This is based on a true story. A main character is handicapped from birth. His mother, his teacher and he himself try hard, and he can write sentences or poem and draw paintings with his left foot that is his only available limb. Quite touching story.
59 before the rain
(1994)
I remember that a minister of some county in somewhere in the Balkan Peninsula said, "To understand the current situation in the Balkan, one should watch three movies." They are "Underground", "Ulysses' Gaze" and this "Before the rain".
This is a cyclic story and consists of three stories. (I guess.) This is a fine work.
60 Romeo and Juliet
(1968)
"Romeo and Juliet" has been often filmed. When I was a junior high school student, I have watched it at Meiga-za in front of the station. Those days, veteran actor and actress played. I was disappointed to hear them say, "I am 14 years old, or 15 years old, ...".
In this movie young Olivia Hussey and he (I forget his name) played. This could be a standard of "Romeo and Juliet". Olivia Hussey is very sweet. And music is also great.
