ご存じ、コスタリカ在住の探検昆虫学者にして、当会学術委員の西田賢司さんがこの夏、一時帰国しました。 当会のために、西田さんが長野県で撮影した身近な蝶の画像を提供して下さいました。 ここに西田さんのコメントとともに公開します。 【西田賢司さんのコメント】 　僕もあんまし日本の高原の蝶は知らないというか、初めての経験で新鮮でした。 採集はせず、写真だけで。。。 日本では暑い夏、避暑もふまえて高原の蝶や虫たちと戯れたり観察したりするのが楽しいかも！ 　食べもんも美味しいし！ 「日本も多様性が高く、その土地土地に似合った蝶や植物、他たくさんの生き物たちが息づいているから、 種の多様性以前に環境や生態系の多様性を見つめなおして、 その土地土地の特徴なんかが、地球全体の多様性を生み出している！」 ということを感じました。 以下、すべて長野県須坂市峰の原、２０１０年８月撮影

Familiar butterfly photos by “Exploratory Entomologist” Dr. NISHIDA Kenji　（HP）

Dr. NISHIDA Kenji (academic committee of our society), a well-known “Exploratory Entomologist” in Costa Rica, came back to Japan just for a short stay this summer. He visited mountain area of central Japan and took butterfly pictures. He kindly provides our society with some of his photo collection. Here we show his photos together with his comment. I did not have much experience collecting or observing butterflies of highlands in Japan. So this was the first time for me to meet them and I fully enjoyed not collecting but just taking pictures… In Japan, I think it is very pleasant experience to visit highlands for observing butterflies and other insects taking shelter from the killing heat in summer. In addition to that, Japanese dishes are also fantastic! In this visit I found the rich biodiversity in Japan. Many butterflies and plants or other numerous living things live in harmony from place to place. The whole biodiversity of our planet comes from the characteristic of various places on earth. So we should keep an eye on the environmental and ecological diversity before focusing the diversity of species.
