Black Kite
Black Kite

MANO-BEACH, OTSU-city SHIGA, June 24, 1997.
Black kites appear at any place in Otsu-city. I have heard that a fish caught by a black kite fell down from the sky. Usually few people pay attention to the bird, but the bird is very large when it flies nearby.
It is very easy to extinguish the black kite from other eagles, hawks and falcons. For the kite has a plectrum-like tail while the other speices has a fan-shaped tail. Therefore, we rarely confuse the kite with any other speices when the kite is flying. In addition, there is a large difference in light and shade between coverts and primaries (or secondaries) while in most of the other speices there is no difference. This feature is more conspicuous in juveniles.
