Great Reed Warbler
Great Reed Warbler

In Otsu-city, Shiga, May 27, 1997.
Although there were a lot of Great Reed Warblers in TOMIO-RIVER or YAMATO-RIVER in NARA where I had lived till last year, I had seldom seen them. I had heard those lively songs, and regarded them as Great Reed Warblers.
I began watching birds regularly this year, and heard the songs of the birds in the MANO-RIVER near my home this summer. However, I counld not see their living pictures.
The other day when I went to the KATATA station, I heard the songs at the station. "GYOGYOSH-GYOGYOSH-GYCHGYCH" Going to the back of the station, songs of the birds were heard from any place of fields where there is a plan to build an apartment house. In a little while, I saw the birds flying after each other, which birds maybe were rivaling each other over territory. A successful bird in forcing the other bird out was singing with his mouth fully open as often shown in bird guid books or the like.
