Coming to a garden tree in my mother's home, Nara, Dec.25, 1996.

Last Christmas, two daurian redstarts came to my mother's home. Confirming the birds near the home, they had not visited there since then. I thought that was a X'mas present.
The bird as shown in the above photo is female because it looks grayish as a whole. Male has more striking brown. Both male and female are characterized in while patches of the waist and brown feathers of the tail. Some people call these birds "blazoned kimono" after the white patches.
