Common Shoveller
Common Shoveller

<
In a pond near the TOMIO-RIVER, Nara, Jan. 8, 1997.
While only common teals come down to the TOMIO-RIVER, only common shovellers fly down to this pond just near the river. This pond is constituted by the combination of two ponds for supplying water to rice fields. When I pointed my camera at the birds in one of the two ponds, they moved to the other pond. When I trudged to the next pond, they moved again. I had no chance. I could take a picture at a long distance from them.
I will make a challenge to them with some device.
They resemble mallards, but they have white in their breast. Therefore, we can identify them.
