How to use "WiSP-TLM" with WiSP32
            =================================

This "WiSP-TLM" is the program to decode the satellite degital signals
with "WiSP16". And you can use also it in "WiSP32" by the next way.

For example KO-25;

(1) Save "wisp.ini" used for WiSP16 in "C:/windows".

(2) Copy "wisp-tlm.exe", "kitsat2.cfg", "kitsat2.pag" in "C:/wisp".

(3) GSC - Setup - Programs - Menu Title - "Wisp-Tlm"
                             Startup Directory - "C:/wisp"
                             Program Name - "wisp-tlm.exe"

(4) GSC - Setup - Satellite Setup - "KO-25" - Edit -
                  - General - TLM Config File - "C:/wisp/kitsat2.cfg"

(5) GSC - Setup - Satellite Setup - "KO-25" - Edit -
         - MSPE Settings - General - (Check)LOG Telemetry frames

(6) GSC - Programs - "Wisp-Tlm" - Telemetry - Select Satellite -
    - "KO-25" - Telemetry - Playback File - "KO-25" -
    - (ex.)"99426k25.tlm" - Window - Communications - Telemetry - Play
                                     Computer Forward
                                     Power
                                     Temperature
                                     Navigation

About "wisp.ini" in the above (1),
You need to install firstly WiSP16 (in Windows3.1), and GSC will
generate automatically "wisp.ini" after several satellite settings.

You install secondly WiSP32 (in Windows95) after WiSP16's deletion,
and you must do the same satellite settings in GSC(WiSP32). Please
you put this "wisp.ini" file in C:\windows.

Then GSC(WiSP32) will recognize "wisp-tlm.exe" in the above (3).
If you want to add new satellites, please edit in this "wisp.ini".

Example, please put the following 4 files in the next directory.
This "99426k25.tlm" was the telemetry file that I get from KO-25
at 26-Apr 1999, 02:13-02:20z.

     wisp.ini ....... C:/windows
     kitsat2.cfg .... C:/wisp (for KO-25)
     kitsat2.pag .... C:/wisp (for KO-25)
     99426k25.tlm ... C:/wisp/KO-25 (sample)

You can get "wisp-tlm.zip" file on the next web, and you will find
cfg files for other satellites in this extracted file.
And you can get the updated "WiSP3215" program on the next ftp.

  http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/CSER/UOSAT/amateur/software/wisp.html
  ftp://ftp.amsat.org/amsat/software/win32/wisp/

'Wisp-tlm.exe' is a program for 'UO-22, KO-23, KO-25, TO-31, UO-36'
on WiSP32. Please refer 'WiSP how to install' and 'CFG file link'
in my home page below.

For 'AO-16, LO-19', you are in need of 'tlmdc4.exe'.

     tlmdc4.zip (tlmdc4.exe) ......... Telemetry Decorder
     http://www.amsat.org/amsat/ftpsoft.html

And you must get 'KISS file' befor the fact from the satellite
with WiSP32. Firstly check the followings setup in 'GSC'.

     GSC - Setup - Satellite Setup - LO-19 - Edit -
           - MSPE Settings - Log Kiss frames
                             Log telemetry frames - OK
(again)- MSPE Settings - Log Kiss frames
                                 Log telemetry frames - OK

And you specify this got KISS file name on DOS_PROMPT.
Then it will be automatically decoded to the numerical data.

Tlmdc4 - F(Decode File) - Input raw data file to read: *.kss

CF2.[Configuration file]

     Uo5tlm.cfg for UO-22
     Kitsat1.cfg for KO-23
     Kitsat2.cfg for KO-25 are in wisp-tlm.zip on the following web;
     http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/CSER/UOSAT/amateur/software/wisp.html

     Tmsat1.cfg  for TO-31 is on the following web;

WISP-TLM is not compatible with WiSP32.
But you can work it in WiSP32 by the technique.
Please refer the more information in the below web.

Thank you for the info but I Never Had "WiSP16",I started with Wisp32.

Since WiSP16 is not on Amsat site maybe you could sent a copy of
"wisp.ini" then I'll just edit file and insert into C:\windows (98se),
as you suggest.

Hello Mineo,
I have read your very interesting message in AMSAT-BB and on your
homepage about using WiSP-tlm.exe with WiSP32. I would like to make a
translation for the next issue of our AMSAT-DL Journal and hope that
you have no objections.
I am also active on the digital sats but have not experimented much
with telemetry decoding. Now I followed your instructions on the
example of KO-25 and I have succeeded to get the system working. But
only one exeption. I understood that wisp-tlm.exe can decode telemetry
in realtime. When I am receiving the satellite and open wisp-tlm.exe
and click on 'Telemetry' and then 'Select Satellite' I then select
KO-25. Then again I click on 'Telemetry' and then on 'Live from MSPE'.
Nothing happens. When I then click on 'Play' immediately an error
message pops up and I have to close the program. In other words I can
only decode telemetry from a file but not in realtime. Can you give me
any additional advise?

Hello Reinhard,

Yes I shall be glad to help printing in AMSAT-DL Jounal.
Would you please sending me that your Jounal printing my messages ?

I rewrote yesterday a few messages in my below HomePage.

  http://www.ne.jp/asahi/hamradio/je9pel/wisptlme.htm
  http://www.ne.jp/asahi/hamradio/je9pel/ko25tlme.htm
  http://www.ne.jp/asahi/hamradio/je9pel/configur.htm
  http://www.ne.jp/asahi/hamradio/je9pel/wisp-ini.htm

Well, I considered that the telemetry analysis was worth after
getting as a file, so I made many experiments in that way long ago.

I think also this is a program bug. I intend to try these 'realtime'
experimentations after tomorrow.

I look forward for your findings because realtime decoding is the most
interesting feature. Decoding from a file is also possible with other
programs.

Today, 14 May 2000, I attempted to test 'WiSP-TLM realtime'
experimentations for KO-23 with WiSP3215. I confirmed that
'WiSP-TLM' could decode only after receiving as a telemetry file
not 'realtime'.

Whenever I click on 'Telemetry' and then on 'Live from MSPE',
nothing happens. And when I then click on 'Play' immediately an
error message pops up. This is a certain fact, so I think this
may be a program bug. Although 'WISP-TLM' is not compatible with
WiSP32, we can decode only after received file as the next way.

(1) Save "wisp.ini" on "C:/windows" in Windows95(WiSP32).

(2) Copy "wisp-tlm.exe", "kitsat1.cfg", "kitsat1.pag" in "C:/wisp".

(3) GSC - Setup - Programs - Menu Title - "WiSP-TLM"
                             Startup Directory - "C:/wisp"
                             Program Name - "wisp-tlm.exe"

(4) GSC - Setup - Satellite Setup - "KO-23" - Edit -

(6) GSC - Programs - "WiSP-TLM" - Telemetry - Select Satellite -

    - "(telemetry file)" - Window - Communications - Telemetry - Play
                                    Computer
                                    Power
                                    Temperature
                                    Navigation

This (telemetry file) is a telemetry file that I received from KO-23
at today 06:45 UTC, 14 May 2000. This is in the following URL.
GIF_file is too in the same URL, and the three TLM_files open in it.
About the more informations (bwcc.dll etc), refer the below URL.

I suppose that MSPE of WiSP supplies different data then MSPE of WiSP32,
and this maybe the reason that "Live from MSPE" does not work with
WiSP32. It is a pity because realtime decoding would be a nice feature
together with WiSP32. For decoding from a file there exist already some
other programs. The article I was going to write for AMSAT-DL-Journal
was based on realtime decoding. Now when we realized that it does not
work I will not publish this article in the journal. In case that you
will have new findings in this matter please let me know.

I thought that WiSP-TLM was actually a program for WiSP16(Windows3.1).
It could work 'realtime' in Windows3.1. When MSPE run, WiSP-TLM
indicate 'Connected to MSPE' in the bottom.

And it decode automatically in 'realtime'. I noticed that it decoded
every 3 seconds in case of KO-23 KO-25, and every 5 seconds in case of
UO-22. When MSPE closed, WiSP-TLM indicated 'Disconnected from MSPE'.

I hope to up version this nice WiSP-TLM program for WiSP32.

Hello Mineo-san,
thank you for your further comments. I think G7UPN is the only who can
modify WiSP-TLM so that it will work together also with WiSP32. But I
doubt that he can do it because he is heavily overloaded with his work
at UoS. If there is any progress please keep me informed. Thank you.
