ご家族またご友人、特に日本より名誉あるお客様方、ようこそお越しいただきました。
May I take a moment to explain the beginnings of Takumakai in Australia?
オーストラリアの琢磨会の始まりを、少しお時間をお借りして説明させていただいてもよろしいでしょうか？
Frustrated with the Jujutsu Style in Australia, I felt there must be more and decided to embark upon a journey to Japan to find the context.
オーストラリアの柔術のやり方に不満を抱いた私は、日本にはもっと何かがあると感じ、その背景を探る為、日本への旅へと乗り出すことを決心しました。
First Meeting with Kawabe Sensei:
川辺先生との初めての出会い…
Began with a Post Card with only 4 words on it “See you in Sept” (this in 1998)
始まりは“See you in Sept” “９月に会いましょう”という、たった４つの言葉が書かれたハガキからでした。（これは１９９８年のことでした。）
Arriving in Osaka for the first time:
初めて大阪に着いた時…
No Japanese Nihongo 日本語がわからない
Very Tired とても疲れた
Lost, and taken to a Police Station 迷って、そのため、警察に連れていかれた
Finally a warm welcome at a Ryokan with Kawabe waiting with a Beer and the words you are very late we were worried.やっと！温かく迎い入れてくれた旅館で、ビールを片手に川辺先生が言った言葉は、「すごく遅かったね、心配したよ。」
A few visits later the challenge was put on the table by Kawabe Sensei to change to the “Takumakai Way” and change we did in Dec 2000 (Hence this Embu Taikai 10 years later). In the beginning It was dramatic with many people leaving, it was consider too hard too difficult (It still is) Musakashiidesune.
何度かの訪問の後、川辺先生により、琢磨会のやり方に変えましょうという挑戦が明かされました。そして２０００年１２月、私達は変えました。（したがって、この演武大会はその１０年後ということになります。）
始めは、まるでお芝居を見てるかのように多くの人々が離れていきました。辛すぎ、難しすぎるかと考えたからです。
I am often reminded by my father’s words, nothing worthwhile is ever easy!
私はよく、「価値のあるものは、一度だって簡単ではない」という、父の言葉思い出します。
Anyway Change we did, and continue to change to this very day, and will continue into the future; for Daito Ryu is not static and with Kawabe Sensei’s guidance and his continuous pursuit of excellence. Always endeavouring to improve and never accepting the status quo.
ともかく、私達は変えました。そして今日まで変化し続けてきました。そしてこの先も変化を続けていきます。なぜなら大東流は止まっている”もの”ではないからです。常に優秀さを求め、レベルアップに努め、現状に満足することのない、川辺先生のご指導があるからです。
Each of us have our own limitations, level of understanding and interpretations: but all derive from the solid foundation that Kawabe Shihan provides.
私たちは自分自身の限界、理解力、解釈を個々に持っています。ただ、それら全ては川辺師範が与えてくれる確固たる土台より得るものです。
We can only thank Kawabe Shihan for is enduring commitment, support, guidance and most importantly friendship.
私たちは川辺師範の、久しく変わらず力を尽くしてくれ、支えにご指導、そして一番重要な友情に感謝申し上げます。
Without Kawabe Shihan Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu in Australia would not exist!!
川辺師範なしでは、オーストラリア大東流合気柔術は存在しなかったでしょう。
I would like to acknowledge the support of all of you the members of Takumakai for without you we would not exist.
全ての琢磨会メンバーの支えなしでは、私たちは存在していなかったと、認めたいと思います。
Lastly there are too many people to thank individually in the organisation of this Embu Taikai, but I would like to draw your attention to Trevor Pickles for all of the Graphics’, Sara for the Japanese translation and most of all Sue my wife for all her love and un yielding support.
そして最後に、それぞれにお礼を申し上げるには多すぎるくらいの沢山の方々が、この演武大会の準備に携わってくれました。しかし、注目していただきたいのが、グラフィックを担当してくれたトレハン・ピクルス、日本語訳をしてくれたサヨコ、そして私の妻のスー、彼女の愛と絶え間ない支えに感謝します。
