A man cane home work later. He was tired and got angry because he found
his 5-year - old son waiting for him at the door .
一人息子を育てている若いお父さんと優しい坊やのお話です。絵私の息子もこのように育ってくれたらどんなに嬉しいかと思います。皆さん最後まで読んで下さいネ。きっと心が温まると思いますよ。
ある日のことです、お父さんは一日の仕事に疲れ切って夜遅く息子のことを気遣いながら大急ぎで家に帰ってきました。家に着くとどうしたことでしょう、５才の坊やが戸口に立って父親を待っているではありませんか、、「こんなに遅く何があったんだろう、、」と父親は最初は心配しましたが、元気そうな様子を見ているうちに次第に腹が立ってきました。
"Daddy, may I ask you a question? "
「お父さん、一つだけきいてもいい？」
"You should be be in bed ! What is it ?"replied the man.
「寝なきゃダメじゃないか、何を聞きたいんだ？」
"Daddy, how much money do you make an hour ?"
「お父さん、一時間働いて、幾らになるの？」
"Why are you asking me that ? It's none of your business!"
「何故そんなことを聞くんだ、お前には関係ないことだろ」
The angry man said.
元気そうな顔をみているうちに父親は又、腹が立ってきて、きつい言葉でそう答えました。（2016.12.23.)

"I just want to know. Pleas tell me. How much do you make an hour?"
asked the little boy.
"If you must know, I make $20 an hour"
「僕、ちょっと知りたいんだよ、お父さん、教えて、お父さんは1時間どれくらいもらえるの？」
「そんなに知りたいのなら教えてやろう、1時間２０ドルだ」
"Oh, the little boy replied with his head down. He looked up and said, daddy, may I borrow $10, pleas?
「わぁ、、」驚いたように声を上げた少年はぴょこんと頭を下げて、それから顔を上げてお父さんを見つめると、
「お父さん、お願い、僕に１０ドル貸してくれない？」と言いました。それを聞くと父親はますます腹立しくなって、声を荒げて言いました。
The father got even angrier . "Is that why you wanted to know how much money I make? So you can get go to some to buy a silly little toy or something? Go to bed ."
「お前は１０ドル借りたくそんなことを聞いたのか？それでくだらないおもちゃか何かを買うつもりなんだろう、はやく寝に行きなさい！」
I work long, hard hours even day and I don't want to waste my money"
「私は毎日忙しく働いているんだ、それで得たお金なんだ、無駄使いして欲しくないんだ！」
The little boy quietly went to his room and the door.
少年は頭を垂れて、しょぼしょぼと自分の部屋へ行き、ドアを閉めてしまいました。
The man thought about the little boy's questioning, and then he sat sown
and stated to get even madder.
"Why Did he ask such question ? Why was he so selfish ?
一人になって少し冷静さを取り戻した父親は少年の言ったことについて考えてみました。ソファに腰を下ろし、なぜあの子はあんなことを聞いたのだろう、、なぜ自分はあんなにも怒ってしまったんだろう、、どう考えてみてもよく分かりませんでした。（2017.1.20.)

After a while, the man calmed down, and started to think he may have been
a little hard on his son. maybe there was something he really needed to
buy with that $10 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man
went to the little boy's room and opened the door.
しばらくすると、父親は少し落ち着きを取り戻しました。そして、息子にきつく当たってしまったかもしれないと思い始めました。
「あの１０ドルで本当に買いたい物があったのだろう、それにあの子は今までにお金が欲しいなんてめったに言わない子だからな、、、」
そう思うと、言い過ぎてしまったと気がかりになり始め、息子の部屋のドアをノックしました。
"Are you asleep ?"
"No, Daddy, I'm awake, " replied the boy.
「寝た？」
「う～ん、起きているよ、何？お父さん」
"I've been thinking , maybe I was too hard on you earlier". said
the man.
"I'm sorry, It's been long day and I took my anger out on you . Here's
that $10 you wanted " .
「さっきはお前に酷く言い過ぎてゴメン、お父さんは一日中忙しく働いて少し怒りっぽくなっていたんだ、それであんなことを言ったんだ、あのな、お前がほしがっていた１０ドルだけど、持って来たんだ、これだよ、、」と１０ドル札を差し出しました。
The little boy sat straight up with a smile.
息子はベッドから起き上がり、背筋を伸ばして父親の顔を見上げて、ニッコリと笑いかけました。
"Oh, thank you Daddy ! " he yelled. Then he reached under his
pillow and pulled out some more crushed bills. The man started to get angry
again because he saw the boy already had plenty of money .
「お父さん、有り難う！」そう言うと息子は自分の枕の下に手を入れて、何かを引きずり出しました。それは枕の下でクシャクシャになった何枚かのお札でした。それを見た父親は、また怒りがこみあげてきました。子供にしては多すぎると思える「ようなお札が出てきたからです。（2017.1.27.)

The little boy slowly counted out his money , then looked up at his father.
息子はゆっくりとお金を数え始めました。「１ドル、、２ドル ３ドル、、」それからニッコリ笑って父親の顔を見上げました。
Why did you want more money if you already had some ? the father complained
.
「お前はもうそんなにお金を持っていたんじゃないか、それなのになんでもっとほしがるんだ？」
"Because I didn't have enough, but now I do " , the little boy
replied.
"Daddy, I have $20 now . Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come
home early tomorrow. I want to have dinner with you "
「だって、ちょっと足りなかったの、でも今はもう大丈夫だよ、あのね、僕いまここに２０ドル持っているの、それでお父さんの時間を売ってくれない？ 僕、お父さんに明日はやく帰ってきて欲しいの、そして、一緒に晩ご飯を食べたいの、ね、良いでしょ！」
The father was crushed and he put his arms around his little son .
父親はその言葉に総てを悟りました、息子をギュッと抱きしめたまま、しばらくは身動きも出来ないでいました。完 （2017.2.3.)
