Lentinus lepideus

We usually find them the dead pine tree in spring. Pine tree gives them very characteristic aroma like pine resin. It is sweet-smell for us Japanese. Myself love the Japanese style soup with Lentinus lepideus because of their clean-cut feeling and bittersweet taste. They say some of them cause digestive upset. I never suffer it.

P.S. They grow all season except winter. I found typical young specimen in August. (31st Aug., 1999)

They are found on the abandoned lumber in the construction field.
