Amanita pseudoporphyria Hongo
They are commonly found on the ground of broad leaf tree forest in summer. Their size is so large and you can easily identify them. They belong to notorious Amanita family whose members mostly have poison. Few things are known about this species. For example, some member of my mushrooming society insist they are valuable in the kitchen while the other say they are Yaki ! Anyhow, we better not try them for the time.
P.S. August seems to be their most favorite month. I replaced the 2nd photo in order to show you more typical specimen. (31st Aug., 1999)
