About 1 hour from my place, there is a famous shrine named
Hasuge-jinja where many big old chinquapin trees grow wild. They
are nominated as the local sanctuary of plants. Fistulina hepatica
grows on the trunk of such big and old chinquapin tree. All my
photos about this species were taken in this place. They are called
as tongue of cow in France. They just look like it. But, it is
nice for the material of salad with slicing.
P.S. They become good size in mid to end May. We can enjoy good harvest.
