Fusarium-infesting sap
The below specimen had been long unidentified and kept puzzle in my mind. Recently, I showed relevant photos to my senior in the mushrooming society who clearly identified this material as Fusarium-infesting sap. The drama is as follows;
Spring, trees start vividly their life after cold winter and become very metabolic to make secretion of sap if they are damaged. The below tree was cut completely and then made a lot of secretion of their sap. In the sap, some sort of yeast lives and starts propagation after receiving a lot of their food, the sap. After the yeast, Fusarium, belonging Deuteromycotina, comes to the infested sap. This guy makes the color of occupied area red. It is as if the tree spills blood. Deuteromycotina is the sort of waka. They have no sexual reproduction. It is too hard for me to mention about them further more. Please refer the books. Anyhow, this red substance is neither mushroom nor lichen. I become easy to be advised so. (12th September, 1999)
