"Prize Edition, Abridged. New Impression." Inscribed by Potter, "From Miss Potter to wish you a Merry Christmas 1910." Though not so indicated, the recipient of the inscription was Ralph Cannon, the son of Potter's Hill Top Farm bailiff, Joseph Cannon. Ralph and his sister Betsy were the dedicatees of Potter's book, THE TALE OF JEMIMA PUDDLE- DUCK, published in 1908.
