In pursuit of peaceful coexistence and
sharing in and caring for the lives of others.
Prologue
This will become a collection of writings based on thoughts and
recollections I have had through my years of training in aikido.
The reason I have decided to do this at this time is a combination of a
sense of urgency I feel after the passing of my teachers who were very
dear to me, and a feeling for the need to organize my thoughts and
observations after close to fifty years of training in aikido.
Of course, I realize that this path is a never ending one, and that the
techniques I describe and my thoughts about them will change with
time. I’m also aware that there are many people with greater knowledge
and experience than I who will disagree or criticize some of the things I
have to say. However, I have no desire to debate differences of opinion,
and merely seek to express the thoughts I have at this time.
For those of you who sympathize with my opinions, I’m happy to share
my ideas and knowledge with you. For those of you who do not agree
with my ideas, please disregard what I have to say.
This is budo, and trying to understand it by just reading about its
concepts is nearly impossible.
You must think about it, you must remember it with your body,
and also feel it with your heart.
There are many things we can only understand through training, so
these writings and ideas are intended for the people who train with us,
and not for the general public.
I would be extremely pleased if these writings serve as guideposts as we
train together, and also help you to avoid the many long detours I have
taken to get to where I am now.
Let’s stop conflict!
There’s no future in hatred!
