Flight camp report in Swiss for Aug 9〜16/2003
[Chill Out Flight camp]

When we departeded Narita airport in Japan, we were anxious about whether or not airplane could take off on time, because the typhoon was coming.. However, in the wind of the against in the south of the equal to or more than 10-m wind velocity, Jumbo jet took off on time.

Aug-9
We arrived at Zurich airport. Also, we didn't encounter Lost baggage, we had been anxious for .Then, Masato and Kari met us., I hadn't seen Kari for a month, We went to Interlarken by car.
When we transfered to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, the "karabiner" in my hand luggage was confiscated in security check as the danger.(The member in last week, too, was the same). Added to that, an "auxiliary rope", too, was confiscated as the danger.
I can not permit , security check confiscates to such one, Last year, we encountered to Lost baggage. I intend to never use Air France any more.

Aug-10 (Clear)
The weather was clear with no clouds at all. In front of the Kari's office which was newly made on the side of Backpackers Villa, We did self-introduction and Kari explained an outline of the flight camp to us .Then, our harness setting was checked by Kari.
As for the flight on the first day, We went to "Chiley" in Diemtigtal valley. Chiley is the place where Kari's parents live. Chiley was my first flight area . It took about 40 minutes by car from Interlarken. The TO is at an altitude 1980 m and the LD is 1380 m.
When I took off, the thermal condition was no good and was rough. I didn't get a good thermal anyway at first. However, I got a strong thermal and flew to the mountain ridge where Kari was waiting .
Because Kari ran to the opposite mountain ridge , I and Hirosi followed at once. We flew over the mountaintop (2880m of altitude) of the opposite mountain, and moreover I aimed at the following next mountain and crossed a valley.This mountain is a peak on the cliff. We could not have done the top out anyway .Kari got the top out by the thermal in lee side. Then, as Kari had returned to the take off place. We gave up and flew to the landing.
The other people flew to the landing place near Kari's parents house . It was the flight of mini XC
We greatly enjoyed the flight from the first day
After that, We were invited to the house of Kari's parents. And We had a home cooked dinner which his parents made. It was delicious.

Aug-11(Clear)
The weather was clear. We went to Grindelwald, we were looking forward to. When we arrived at First by gondola. Unexpectedly,the strong north wind was blowing from the mountain.Then, it wasn't settled at all.
The today's guest was Olivie nef and the test pilot of the development taking charge in the Advance company. We heard the fact of the development to be various, and the necessity of the wing let and the sale time of omega 6 and so on from him at the restaurant (It's the secret).
After that, we enjoyed a hike to the lake. Thanks to the hike, I could take some very good pictures.
Kiyohiko could not fly badly for the weather at the camp in last year.Then, this year, too, he could not fly from First. He said "I'll be back".
We expected the good flight from tomorrow and drank beer at the restaurant.
Europe in this year was the extraordinary weather of the becoming tropical. Here, in Interlaken, every day, the temperature in the daytime was an equal to or more than 35-degree intense heat. It was OK with wearing a T shirt in the evening when temperature was about 25 degree .

　　　



　　　




Aug-12 (Clear)
In the morning. Kari said as follows."Yesterday, the computer (Weather forecast by the Internet) said weather became the good flight condition. However, The north wind was too strong. . So,we could not fly."
Therefore, we went to"Nieder horn" (TO altitude is 1700 m) that was possible to fly surely by car. As for this place, it is possible to enjoy a wonderful view in Wetter horn, Eiger, Jungfrau and so on.
In the thermal time, it was still a little too early .Therefore all people could not do a thermal soaring. Then,we landed at the concourse in Interlaken (an altitude of 560 m).
The 2nd flight ,we flew from "Amisubil" (TO altitude of 1280 m ).This time, all people could do the thermal soaring flight. While I enjoed the soaring (an altitude of 2000 m) in the thermal point, Masato and Kiyohiko ran to the mountain ridge on the Brienz lake side. I ran after them to the way. However, I descended. I returned and landed at the official LD on the Thun lake side.
We drank and had dinner pleasantly at the mountain restaurant. After that, we went to the darkest place.We observed "the Perseus meteor" from this place.Toyoko explained a constellation (She is the teacher of the science in the junior high school).I saw four meteors.

　　　




Aug-13 (Clear)
The today's flight place was "Schonbuel" that is in town "Lungern" with the side of the small lake on the way to go from the Brienz lake to Ruzern. Schonbue was the flight area to begin for me. We climbed to the takeoff place (an altitude of 2000 m) by gondola and ski lift. We waited at the restaurant between for a while, because the wind rather blew and it was dropping off.
All people took off because the thermal blow rose. I descended to the gondola station in the wind of the blow dropping-off. The peak at the station is a thermal trigger point. I got the thermal that was expected here and I rose up to 2600 m . Then, I flew to the mountain ridge in opposite beyond the lake.
I flew to the lee side. Because it was not in the angle of the sun shine yet here. Then, I got a little rough thermal and rose up to 3100 m. However, cloud base was quite still high. When I stayed under cloud. My left arm began to be painful,.because I had a chronic illness. Then I moved to the sun shine without raising to cloud base. I enjoyed here and there, soaring and taking pictures for a while.Then, I crossed a lake and landed.
Cloud base today was frightfully high . Some people rose up to 4000 m.
The evening, we went to "Axalp" on the southern side of the Brienz lake. I could not fly here last year. Because the wind was bad. This time was my first flight . We went to the takeoff place (an altitude of 1600 m) by car. Valery who is business taking charge of the Advance company, too, went together.
I thought that it does a flight on the Brienz lake quietly,; however I got a thermal when took off and rose up to 2090 m . After that, I crossed Brienz lake quietly and landed at the place in the shore of the lake (an altitude of 565 m) where Kari's father was preparing a barbecue. Aug-14(Cloudy-Rain)
Was the extraordinary weather of Switzerland until yesterday? It finally returned to the normal weather .It became cloudy from the morning and the weather condition gradually worsened.
We went to "Murren" which is above the valley of Lauterbrunnen as the area which it was possible to fly in today. Murren is the town which is over the cliff 500m height. I had wanted to visit Murren from before. When I had flown from Schilt horn, I always had been seeing the town of Murren from the air.
The takeoff place is under the eaves at the house.Then, there is the slope of only 20m-30m and moreover,there is an a little tight slope under it. Moreover, there is a 500m cliff. It's the same with Schilt horn west takeoff place, too, . It is fearful when there is not confidence in the taking off (the takeoff technique 1-2-3).
The wind blew weakly and it was dropping off. Then, it began to rain. We visited the town of Murren and rested at the restaurant until the weather recovered. After all, the weather didn't recover. We got to valley of Lauterbrunnen by gondola. I was regrettable.
After that, we visited "Trummelbach" (the fall which flows in the cave). In the evening, we went to the mystery park (open from this year in Interlarken).We watched the movie (at the big screen) that introduce the four seasons of Switzerland. After that, as surprise event this time, we became a circle at the center on the runway in the Interlaken airdrome. Then, we did ceremony (Kari prepared) of the Yukio, Kyouko newly-married couple.

　　　　

　　　

　　　


Aug-15 (Rain-Fair)
Today, it was raining from the morning. According to the forecast, the weather would improve in the afternoon. Until that, we went sightseeing to"Bern" or "Meiringen" separately. I went to Meiringen. After that rain stopped.Then, we visited a canyon near Meiringen. There is a canyon walkway on the cliff and this place seems like Kurobe canyon in Japan exactly.
Because it became fair, we quickly returned to Interlaken . And we went to "Lubunberg?" for the last flight. Here is the flight area of the beginner in Interlaken. The takeoff place is 500 m above the landing. I had never been the thermal soaring flight here. However, this time I did a little the thermal soaring flight and I got the first record of 140m getting from TO. We did the last flight in the camp.
At the landing place, We talked about the following with Kari . The impression in the camp, to have been good, to want to improve and so on.

　　　

　　　


Aug-16
We woke up at half past 4 o'clock in the morning and went to Zurich airport by car of Kari. About people passed the checking-in counter to measure weight. Because we measured with the spring weight gauge which was brought by Mamoru last night. Only one paid overcharging for weight over. He did not check for the weight last night..
Recently, as for Zurich airport, the weight regulation is severe (even if OK at Narita in japan). They request the overcharging surely when exceeding 23 Kg of leaving luggage, 12 kg of hand luggage. Let's be careful.
My trick introduction. I showed a souvenir (but, put in the bag which has a Swiss mark). The checking-in counter didn't measure this. After that, it put into the hand luggage secretly. The trick of Manabu. It put heavy one in his big waist pouch, being full (It doesn't measure a waist pouch). The other trick., Hanging a camera and a video camera on the shoulder without putting them in the hand luggage. Wearing a para shoes. However, in case of the weight over, there is technique of the dangerous secret when found out. Please, refer this.
Later, all the members arrived at Narita in Japan safely.
