@Okutama Mountains occupy the southeastern rim of the Chichibu-Tama National Park. This area may be regarded as part of the corridor (bear paths) that links other areas where bears live such as Daibosatsu-Toge, Misaka Mountains, Mishotai Mountains, Tanzawa-Ohyama National Park, and Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. It thus occupies a point of vital importance for the bears to keep their genetic diversity.
