Bear Distribution in Tokyo

　Okutama-machi, Hinohara-mura, Oume-city, Hinode-machi, Akiruno-city and Hachioji-city are among those residential areas in Tokyo where black bears also live. This area is generally known as Okutama Mountains. The rims of Lake Okutama to　Mt. Kumotori, the highest mountain in Okutama, are where the black bears populate most heavily. The black bear habitation spreads to Yamanashi Prefecture and Saitama Prefecture since the bears cross the borders without any heed to the borderline. The frontier of the bear distribution is located about 40km like a beeline to the west of Shinjuku, the seat of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. People have been also living in the bear distribution areas for a long time.
