Red-breasted Merganser

Slim body with red bill and ragged crest.They are good at "snorkeling" on the surface to catch the fish for prey.

Baikal Teal

The "scrollwork" of green and yellow pattern on their heads. They breed around Lake Baikal and come to Japan in winter.

Bear's Pochard

The dark metallic green sheen over the black head. They live in far east but in Japan it is not easy to find out.

Shelduck

They are one of the most attractive ducks in the world. they have swan-like knob at the base of bill.

Garganey

They are distinguished by a prominent white pattern across a dark maroon-brown head.

Ring-necked Duck

They looks like tufted duck but don't have drooping "nape crest". Dark ring at their neck is not easy to find out.

Bufflehead

Totally North American bird.The dark area of the head is very beautiful purplish-blue.

Common Scoter

In Japanese we call this duck "Black duck". They have yellow bills with large knob at the base.

Ruddy Shelduck

Their color is orange-chestnut all over the body. I wonder how beautiful when they fly.

American Wigeon

Originally called Baldpate because of their white crown. They are rare species in Japan.

Old Squaw

They are called Long-tailed duck in english. We call them Ice Duck in Japanese.

Harlequin Duck

The male is an unmistakable bird because of their unique mark. I would like to see them even at once.

Velvet Scoter

The male Velvet is an all black bird very similar to its Common cousin. The patch at eye is a good accent.

Red-crested Pochard

The male has a coral red bill and a bright orange-red head. They live mainly in Europe and it is very rare in Japan.

Crested Shelduck

Beautiful duck but They are phantom. They became extinct about a hundred years ago at the Far-East area.
