All times in UTC.
This edition is special report monitored in Dili where I stayed at
the end of August.
There are 4 radio stations operating in Dili.
Radio Suara Beringin on 936kHz.(Not listed in WRTH'99)
Radio Suara Lorosae on 963kHz.
Radio Timor Kemanik on 1404kHz.(Not listed in WRTH'99)
Radio Republik Indonesia Dili on 684kHz, 88.2MHz, and 99.0MHz.
Radio Suara Beringin and Radio Suara Lorosae relay Jakarta news.
Especially, Radio Suara Beringin relays RRI Dili's regional news.
These stations seem to be operated in accordance with instruction
from Indonesian government.
Radio Timor Kemanik is very irregular operating and not relays news
from RRI Jakarta. This station is maybe operated by pro-independence
people. The theme music is very combative.
RRI Dili is listed its frequency as 648kHz in WRTH '99, but this is
misprint. Also FM frequencies are different from WRTH's. The local
news entitled "Warta Berita Regional Timor Timur" can be heard at 0930
and 1400 in the local evening. The ending music is "Bagimu Negri" with
chorus. Compared with other RRI stations in Indonesia, many political
programs can be heard in RRI Dili. The special program about the future
in East Timor could be seen at 0030-0230 from 23 August to 31 August.
This program was relayed by RRI Jakarta on Monday and Thursday.
UNAMET(United Nations Mission in East Timor) has a program entitled
"Radio UNAMET". It is broadcasted by RRI Dili. It is 50 minutes
program and used in English, Bahasa Indonesia, Portuguese, and Tetun.
Mainly it reports occurrence in East Timor. If you want to listen to
the program, visit UNAMET homepage. The address is http://www.un.org/
peace/etimor/etimor.htm.
Now East Timor is dangerous and in a state of anarchy. I hope that
peace will visit to the people in East Timor in the near future.
