爆発栄螺＆coelacanth
というわけで、爆発さんからこんなネタが届いたのでちょっくら手を入
れながら２月号に投稿してみましょう。赤字でちゃちゃを入れているのがcoelacanthでご
ざいます。
私は英語版のペ−ジを作ってるのですが、シ−ラさんとか英語の手助けをしてくれる人が
いなかったら存続できません。いやーそんなたいそうなこっちゃねーで
すってば。なんとか語学力を身につけて一人立ちしたいのですが、セサミストリ
−トが完全に理解出来ない私にとってはまだまだ翻訳ソフトをあてにしてしまいます。
あれは完全に理解すんのは結構しんどいっすよ。１度アメリカ
の幼稚園に留学せねばならんかなと思います。ガキの英語は所詮ガキ英
語ですからねぇ。私は日本語がガキなガキは英語覚えたってどうせガキ英語だ、という信
念からうちのガキにはまだ英語教えてないです。良いソフトがあったら誰か教え
て下さいまし−。それにしても機械翻訳の滅茶苦茶さはすごいもんがあ
りますよねぇ。言葉の文脈や機微以前に文法無視っつーかなんつーか。ややまともなソフ
トとなるとやっぱりまだ数十万、数百万円級ですかねぇ。

昆虫を趣味に持つ者にとって標本収集は楽しみの一つであります。博物館で見る標本はき
ちんと整理され宝石のようであります。しかし、個人で標本を持った場合、整理や防虫剤
の入れ替えなど大変な労力が必要です。また、ピンを刺した昆虫は痛そうに見えるので、
いい方法は無いかと思ってました。パ−ソナルコンピュ−タのお陰で、防虫剤やピンを使
わずに済む標本箱が出来上がりました。こうやって誰かに見せびらかすのも可能になりま
した。どうだ−！
「翻訳以前に日本語の勉強せ−。」と言ってるみたいに翻訳ソフトは容赦ありません。で
はやってみますか−。まぁ確かに「機械に食わせる為の日本語」を書く
ようにするという配慮は役に立ちますが、そんなにひどい原文ではありませんよねぇ。や
っぱり翻訳ソフトがまだまだ、という事でしょうねぇ。
S社日英翻訳ソフトにて原文を英語に

なんやこれ、構造が全然わからん英語モドキだ。

「は」を「葉」にとってわけわかめなのはまだしも、Japanese spaniel
ってなんだ？どっから出て来た？seesの主語が倒錯してるのもいい加減過ぎだよなぁ。

whoseってつなげかたはねーだろ、おい。しかもその後にtheなんか来る
のは明白で単純な文法ミスだよなぁ。

意味や主語述語の取り違えなどはともかく、できあがりの英語がそもそ
も文法的に全く成り立ってないっつーのはひどすぎねーかな。「無いか」がnone squidっ

か？（笑）掛け合い漫才のネタみたいだ。

おお、これは変ながらも結構おしいな。「済む」がcompleteってーのが
全くダメだが後は「そこそこ変」な程度に収まっている。

おお、いかにも機械的に訳した変てこりんさ満々だが、これもかろうじ
て意味が想像できる程度に収まっているなぁ。
ぱっと見た目はそれっぽいですが・・・。ぱっと見滅茶苦茶過ぎてわけ
わからんが、、、、（笑）
K社英日翻訳ソフトにて１度英語にしたものを再び日本語に戻すそ
いつぁいいや（笑）
見本のコレクションは楽しみの趣味に対する昆虫を飼っている1時まです。それは博物館
に見える標本葉日本スパニエルに順序正しく費やされ、それは宝石です。しかし労働、そ
の必要である、蛾ボールの協定および交換は個人での見本を持っているのに重大です。そ
れが痛く昆虫のようであったので、どれがまた、ピンを貫くのか、有効な方法はそれが何
もなかったと考えた、squidは、した。それなしで終った見本の箱はパーソナル・コンピ
ューターの好意で、蛾ボールおよびピンを使うことは仕上げられた。することのこの方法
および展示は離れてだれかに同じくあり得たどのくらい、！
何を言ってるんだろ？？何でしょうねぇ。
これをもう一度S社日英翻訳ソフトにて英語にわはは、そこまでや
るか!

味を取って英語にし易くした方がいいんだからそれで当然ですってば。自分もよくやりま
す。

When I see specimens, it looks like jewels. It's so biautyful.
But,If I got specimens, the specimens need exchanging moth ball.
Exchanging moth ball is too hard work for me.
And, pind insects looks like painfully.
I'm thinking about good mothod.

Then I could make showed this electric specimen to you.

どうなんだろな−。相当めちゃくちゃでしょ？これでも一応外人から返事は来ます。
いや、人間がやると文法的には間違いが増えても意味はなんとなく通る
ようになりますわな。きっとノリマキをハラマキとか言ってる外人に見えるんだ
ろな−。スペルの間違い位ならネイティブでもよくやりますからねぇ。
辞書引くのが面倒なだけですわね。防虫剤ってmoth ball って言うんだ−。ふ−
ん。言われれば分かるけど思いつかなかった単語ですねぇ。
確認でK社英日翻訳ソフトを使って和訳してみます。
見本のコレクションは 昆虫の趣味の楽しみ です。
私が標本を見るとき、それは宝石のようです。 それはとてもbiautyfulです。
しかし、IfIは標本を得て、見本は蛾のボールを交換される必要がある。
蛾ボールを交換することは私のための過度に硬い仕事です。
そして、pindの昆虫は痛くある。
私は良いmothodについて考えている。
パーソナル・コンピューターはそれらの問題を解決した。
そしてあなたに対するこの電気の見本を見せられたとき私はなることができた。
どのくらいこれである、！
biautyfulとかmothodとかpindがヤバイみたいですね。ヤバイっつーか
単なる綴りミスですからねぇ。ハマキをネマキとかスマキとか言ってるレベルで
すわね−。
それじゃWordのスペルチックを使ってみるべ−。

取りあえずこれでアップしてみるかな。まあクワガタ馬鹿ってくらいだからいいか−。
まぁ十分いいんじゃないですか？機械より遙かにマシです。(ここから
先は全部coelacanthなので全部真っ赤というのも読みにくいから赤はここまでで終わりに
します)

ちょいと添削するならば、まぁ仕方がない事ですが直訳っぽ過ぎる部分がある事ですかね
。enjoymentはなんか固過ぎる単語な気がします。joyとかfun位で十分なような。あと
specimens（複数)をit looks likeと単数で受けて、あげくにjewels（複数）だったり、
、、But, If I gotは,の後ifをIfにするのは変で、しかもgetじゃなくてgotとしてしまう
と、「標本が手に入ったとしたら」という現実とは違う仮定を意味してしまうので変です
ね。無冠詞の単数名詞(moth ball)なんかも気になります。too hard work for meは文法
的にはtoo hard a work for meが正しいですね。pinned insects ならlookだし、その後
が形容詞ならlikeは不要ですね。しかもpainfullyと副詞になっているのは更に間違い。
good method も無冠詞単数で、could make showedは文法的に単純に間違っている(could
show, could make 何々 shown, etc.)上に意味が取れませんね。can ではなくてcouldを
使うと「現実にはできていない」話になってしまってこの場合不適切です。最後に
electricというのは「電気的」という意味で最近はあまり流行りません。やはり
electronic「電子的」、ですかね？
いずれにしても大体意味は想像できる範囲ですし、なんせ機械翻訳よりは１０万倍位いい
です。安心して下さい。
では次に私が原文をなるべくそのまま翻訳したものを上げます。これはとりあえず辞書も
一切引かず、深く考えずに訳したもので、校正もしていません。またバイアスを受けない
ように、機械翻訳や谷田さんの訳に目を通す前に訳してみたものです。

But if you personally have some specimens, you would have to go over a lot of
work, such as sorting and exchanging of insecticide.
Also as the pinned insects look kind of painful, I was wondering if there could
be any better way.
Now thans to PCs I have succeeded in preparing a nice specimen box that needs no
pins nor insecticide.
Also it is easier now to show off my collection this way.
How is that!
さて、ここらへんで私はどんなレベルで悩んでいるかというと、「最初のTheは無くても
いいかなぁ」とか「昆虫を趣味に持つ者ってちゃんと説明的文章にした方がいいかなぁ」
とか「hobbyistってこんな綴りだったっけか？」とか「きちんと整理というのはやっぱり
sortとかclassifyであってput in order（整理整頓する）よりはいいと思うんだがどうか
なぁ」とか「insecticideは文脈から誤解を受けそうな単語だが他にいいのはないかな？
」とか「painfulは主客転倒している虞があるけどいいのかなぁ」とかその他、全体的に
ニュアンスとか雰囲気が伝わっているかという点です。
んで悩んだり辞書引いたり機械翻訳、谷田翻訳等も見た上で校正したのが次です。

結局悩んでいるだけで実は、まだ前の方がいいかなーとか他の可能性もいろいろ考えてい
る。いずれにしてもその１でもその２でも（単純ミスタイプのthansはともかく）まぁ十
分ちゃんとした英語になっているとは思うのですが。。。
次にネイティブに校正してもらう為に完全な直訳（英語として変でもなんでもかまわずな
るべく原文に忠実にword to wordで訳す、機械翻訳みたいな）をしてみます。また参考に
なるような訳の候補や説明もカッコでどんどん付けておきます。校正前なので不自然でも
冗長でも意図がなるべく伝わればいいというわけです。

exhibition) and look like a collection of beautiful jewels.
But if you personally own insect specimens, a lot of labor such as
classification (putting them in order) of specimens and (periodical) exchanging
of moth balls, etc. will be necessary.
Also as the pinned insects look pitiful (painful), I had been always wondering
if there could be any better way.
Now thanks to personal computers I have succeeded in creating a specimen box
that needs no moth balls nor pins.
It is much easier now to show them off to someone this way, too.

んでとどめに、上の３つを見せた上で同僚のアメリカ人編集者、Lauren Coliasさんに校
正してもらったのが次です。私はいつも仕事でハイテクニュースを選んで英語に翻訳し、
彼女に校正してもらって会社のページで発信しているのです。校正してもらう時はいつも
ニュースの背景事情やニュアンスなどを伝え、説明しながら行います。

electronic specimen box that needs neither pins nor moth balls. As well, I
now have an easier way to show off my collection.
