In general, most banks only handle cash in U.S. dollars and the travelers checks of major countries. |
Travelers Checks |
You can use travelers checks for shopping at places such as hotels and department stores, and at big restaurants; however, small stores do not accept travelers checks at all. Furthermore, travels checks are seldom accepted outside of the major cities. To travel in Japan, you must carry a certain amount of cash in yen. |
Exchange |
You should exchange your currency at a currency exchange counter in one of the international airports. In large cities, banks also manage exchange counters. An exchange counter is also located in the Sogo department store at the East gate of Yokohama station. |
