Credit Cards |
In Japan, credit card companies, such as VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and JCB, are well known; however, small stores may not accept credit cards. Cash is the most common form of payment in Japan, so outside of large cities, credit cards are not always convenient. |

ATMs |
In Japan, almost all bank ATMs (Automatic Teller Machines) do not accept foreign cash cards and credit cards; however, about 90% of post office ATMs (about 20,000 machines) spread out all over Japan are connected to the leading international ATM networks. Therefore, you can use the cashing services of each credit card company to obtain cash in the local currency (the yen). |
