"THE SOCIETY OF NATURAL-PLANTS LOVERS IN HOKKAIDO (called HOKKAIDO SHOKUBUTSU TOMONOKAI in Japanese)" was established in 1984 by Prof. Em. Koji Ito, who is an eco-taxonomist as well as an environmental scientist.
This society has the purpose to promote and interchange of information of local flora and new knowledge of the plants among plant lovers.
The basis of the management is on the amateualism. The major works of this society are as follows;

(1) the completion and publication of Flora of Sapporo
(2) field observation party in each months (in summer)
(3) the members magazine "Botanica" publishing once a year
(4) lecture meeting by members or guests

The registrated members are ca. 100 in 1996, being increasing year by year.
