Gertrude Stein

ガートルード・スタイン（1874-1946）
ペンシルヴァニア州の裕福な家に生まれる。ラドクリフ大学でウイリアム・ジェイムス（ヘンリー・ジェイムスの兄）より心理学を学び、ジョン・ホプキンス大学で医学を修めた後、渡欧。パリの住まいは、当時まだ無名のキュービズム画家、ピカソ、マチス、ブラックや、ヘミングウェイ、S.アンダーソンたちのサロンとなった。"You are all a lost generation."は有名な言葉。
反復の多い抽象的な散文詩は、意識を室内の静物のイメージに凝縮させ、ものの意味を浮かび上がらせた。

This one was one certainly being one having something coming out of him. This one was one whom some were following. This one was one who was working.
