Great-Grand Father

A monument of William Clark Falkner ("Old Colonel"),
Faulkner's great-grand-father, in the Ripley Cemetery. It is 30 feet high. (The eight-foot statue is placed on the twenty-two-foot pediment.) He was a successful planter, railroad owner, politician and novelist. As a child, Faulkner used to say he wanted to become a writer like his great-grand-father. (See Murry C. Falkner, The Falkners of MIssissippi: a memoir, p.6)
