▲Compson House
The Thompson-Chandler House, three blocks from Faulkner's childhood home, was thought to be a model for the Compson House in The Sound and the Fury. The last of the Chandler children, Edwin Dial Chandler, born mentally retarded in 1893, was considered to be the basis for the character Benjamin Compson in the novel. In his childhood Faulkner often saw Edwin playing behind the high iron fence that surrounded the house.
