Modeler's 1/24
Nissan R390 GT1 LM '98 |
Updated on 02/19/99 |
The body is undoubtedly based on the Tamiya's R390 GT1 '97 kit,
but it represents the updates that Nissan did to the car, such as the shorter front
airdam, clean side panels, and long tail. |
The rear is a distinctive feature of the
98 version, and the kit captured the aerodynamic shape of the car well. The tail
seems curled up too much at the first sight, and this is probably due to the fact that the
tail is a little too short. (about 2mm) This can be corrected by applying plastic
sheet on the rear fascia, but it won't be so easy. My model will be combined with
the Tamiya kit, so the correction is a little easier. |
Besides the body parts, these are resin
parts included in the kit. The dash and seat are cast well and have no air bubbles,
but the part, which goes under the rear axle will need a lot of filling work to attach the
chassis because of a large gap. |
The wheels are cast metal, and they are well done. On the
other hand, the tires require a lot of sanding to be done. Since I can buy an extra
set of the tires form Tamiya, this won't be a problem. |
One thing that surprised me was the
number of resin parts included in the kit. These parts will represent the upper part
of the engine, and they are more than sufficient for a curbside model. |
They included these photoetched parts in the kit, and these parts
will definitely enhance the appearance of the kit. However, the wiper blade seems
oversized. |
The vacuum formed windshield and
headlight cover are clean, and I have no complaints about them. The lenses and
makers are represented by semi transparent cast resin. |
The decals are the highlight of this
kit, and without these, I wouldn't have bought it. They no longer include a long
sheet that has to be curled to fit in the box, which is another improvement from the
McLaren F1 kit. |
The other miscellaneous parts include
the metal axles, antenna, machined and polished driving light bracket, and the screws to
fix the chassis to the body. |
Some modelers might end up
doing the same as I did. This makes the extension work of the rear a little easier.
The tail was cut by using a sharp saw. |
