The photos below show the hibernation sites
of radio-tracked bears. Bears hibernate in tree hollows, holes in the ground
dug at the base of large snags or stumps, caves, etc., but perhaps because
of the scarcity of large trees in Okutama Mountains, they often use holes
in the ground or caves. One of the unusual sites for hibernation found
previously is the ruin of an oven for charcoal.
